Americans, put Angkor Wat No.1 on your bucket list

Experts over at TripAdvisor have crunched the numbers to compile a list of the most affordable bucket-list destinations around the world and found that Angkor Wat in Cambodia is the most budget-friendly option for US travellers.

After calculating the cost per day to experience some of the world’s most popular once-in-a-lifetime experiences, TripAdvisor found that Angkor Wat is the most accessible at US$2,971 (RM13,000) per week, for two people.

Costs included the price of a round-trip flight, airport taxi, four-star hotel, dinner, and day tour.

One of the most important archeological sites in South-East Asia, the temples of Angkor Wat stretch over 400sq km and stand as a testimony of the ancient Khmer Empire.

Rounding out the top three most accessible bucket-list destinations is the Grand Canyon, at US$3,003 (RM13,200) for two people and the Great Wall of China at US$3,990 (RM17,500).

At the other end of the spectrum, the most expensive trip on the list is Santorini, an island in the Aegean Sea off the coast of Greece, where a week-long vacation will set couples back US$9,364 (RM41,200).
