免签证,但并非完全免签:要求新加坡旅客提供预计到达时间和入境表格的国家

For years, holding a Singapore passport has meant one thing: easy travel. With visa-free access to much of the world, Singaporeans have long enjoyed the convenience of simply booking a flight and showing up.

But in recent years, that definition of “visa-free” has quietly evolved. Today, many destinations still allow entry without a traditional visa. However, some of them require electronic travel authorisations (ETAs), pre-arrival declarations, or digital entry forms.

In other words, travel may still be visa-free, but it’s no longer entirely hassle-free.

The Rise of “Pre-Travel Paperwork”

Governments worldwide are tightening border controls while keeping tourism accessible. The result? A growing number of countries now require travellers to register online before arrival, even if no visa is needed.

These systems are typically:

But they can still catch travellers off guard, especially those used to spontaneous trips. Missing one can mean denied boarding at the airport.

Here’s a breakdown of popular destinations for Singaporeans that now require ETAs, eVisas, or arrival forms despite being visa-free in principle:

[–>

  1. United Kingdom

Requirement: ETA (Electronic Travel Authorisation) (rolling out / required for many travellers)
What to expect: Online application before travel
Why it matters: The UK is moving towards a system similar to the US ESTA

  2. United States

Requirement: ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorisation)
    Validity: Typically 2 years
Note: Mandatory even for short visa-free visits

  3. Canada

    Requirement: eTA (Electronic Travel Authorisation)
Processing: Usually fast, but must be done before flying

  4. Australia

    Requirement: ETA (via mobile app)
Tip: Apply early—approval is quick but not instant

  5. New Zealand

Requirement: NZeTA + International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy (IVL)
Bonus: Also helps fund conservation efforts

  6. South Korea

Requirement: K-ETA (occasionally waived, but subject to reinstatement)
Advice: Always check before travelling as rules may change

  7. Japan

Requirement: Visit Japan Web (arrival form system)
    Includes: Immigration and customs declaration
Tip: Completing it in advance speeds up airport clearance

  8. Thailand

Requirement: Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) (planned/being implemented)
    Replaces traditional paper forms

  9. Malaysia

Requirement: Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) (for most foreign travellers, including Singapore PRs and others depending on rules)
Note: Requirements may vary for citizens vs residents—check before travel

  10. Indonesia

    Requirement: e-Customs Declaration (e-CD)
Additional: Health declarations may apply depending on conditions

  11. Philippines

    Requirement: eTravel Declaration System
    Must be completed before arrival

These requirements may seem minor, but they can disrupt your trip if overlooked.

Airlines now routinely check for:

  • Approved ETAs

  • Completed digital forms

  • Proof of submission

Failing to provide them can result in being denied boarding before you even leave Singapore.

For Singaporeans, the freedom to travel remains strong, but it now comes with a small trade-off: a few extra clicks before take-off. Think of it as the new normal, one where being prepared online is just as important as packing your passport.
